About Me
Guess what :) I’m an IT Engineer working for a bank in Minnesota, my wife is Doctor in Education working for a Minnesotan University.
I just love technology and it was natural to bring it home. Technology, not gadgets you know those thingies that never work or never do what they’re supposed to do.
Technology can help reduce energy and phone bills, increase security and make life easier like avoiding getting up because you forgot to close the garage door.
So I’m a big technology guy, well not entirely. I love woodworking, I own and USE a Shopsmith Mark V, our kitchen appliances are bare bone like the DCS stove or the Kitchenaid food processors. I apply technology where it’s needed.
I’ve quite an extensive experience in home automation and my first concept was drafted in the mid 80s while I was in Africa. It was based on a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), relays, push buttons and modified outlets.
Because of the cost this project never took off. At the time a PLC cost over $15,000 and it didn’t include the monitoring software.
Because of my work, I designed and setup several PLC, data and voice networks from good old X25 and token rings to fiber optics and wireless ones. This in 5 countries on 4 continents!
Bringing it home with today’s technology, the help of eBay and my wife approval, it’s easy and fun!
